Both kiddos had check ups with the pedi this week, Myles for his 2 year and Sydney for her 10 day. Overall they are both doing great. Here are some stats:
Myles at 2 years
• 23 lbs. - 50th percentile on the DS growth chart (NO idea how he is even still growing with his ongoing, terribly annoying eating habits! Bless his heart, he’s trying.)
• 32 inches - 75th percentile on the DS growth chart
• We did learn that Myles has hypothyroidism, which is relatively common in children with Down syndrome. His body has been compensating by working extra hard to produce enough thyroid hormone, but it cannot do this long term, so we’re starting him on a low dose of thyroid medicine to help correct the issue. In the big scheme of things, this is not a big deal, but I can’t help but be a little sad. We’ve been medication free for sometime now and I was hoping to keep it that way. Plus, it’s not an issue that goes away with time, it’s something he’ll be dealing with his whole life. :(
• Myles is doing awesome with his gross motor and fine motor skills. He is very smart and getting quite the 2-year-old attitude. His biggest delay is verbal communication, but has somewhere around 50 signs that help him communicate. He has an amazing speech therapist and we’re working really hard to get him talking to hopefully help alleviate some of the frustration he feels (and acts out) when trying to get his point across.
Sydney at 10 days
• 8 lbs. - 50th percentile, up one whole pound since her two day check!
• 21 inches - 75th percentile
•That’s about it! Sydney is doing great and has no medical concerns. She is still an easy baby; eats well, sleeps well (even at night!), calms quickly, and fits nicely into our family. We love our sweet pea!
